The golden-brown carpenter bee (Xylocopa varipuncta) is a big, sturdy bee species famous for its unique bright yellow hue in female bees, while males are often a sun-kissed brown. These bees fly solo and are dubbed for their knack of drilling into wood to build their homes. They are top-notch pollinators and play a vital role in the ecosystem by helping plants reproduce. Unlike social bees, yellow carpenter bees don't form colonies. Although they are typically non-aggressive and only sting when provoked, their burrowing can sometimes cause harm to wooden structures and furniture.
