Epidote is an aluminum-iron mineral that can be found in either crystal or stone form. It's a silicate mineral that is commonly found in regionally metamorphosed rocks. In these rocks, epidote is often associated with amphiboles, feldspars, quartz, and chlorite. It occurs as replacements of mineral grains that have been altered by metamorphism. It is frequently found in veins that cut into granite. It's also found in massive form and as monoclinic crystals in marbles and schists that were formed or altered through contact metamorphism. The stone was first described in 1801 by R.J. Hauy and was named after the Greek word meaning to “increase”. They are commonly found in Norway, U.S.A, and Brazil.
